Goal Achievement – Mini-Course Part I

Beautiful White Flowers
For some people setting a goal is the hardest thing to do. The reason for that is because goal-setting is not something that is usually being taught at school.

What we usually learn is some skill and how to apply it to earn employment income. Usually we are not allowed much of creativity; all we need to do is just to follow books, learn everything they say, find a job, work till retirement and then in the best case scenario you might have some money saved and there might be few people who still care about you. That’s why it is so important to take charge of your own destiny.

First, you need to develop creative skills, for example, through hobbies that you deeply enjoy. This can help to expand your mind, your entire being into new territory and help you to find what you really want.

If you are a full-time employee and used to suppress all your deepest desires for many years it will be hard for you to do the “finding what you want” exercise. You really need to be “in the flow”, let the restrictive thinking go to open up to incredible opportunities around you that you don’t even notice with your existing mindset.

If you like dancing – an active, disco-type dancing for about 30 minutes will help you open up quickly and then you will be ready for the “finding what you want exercise”. Doing it with a friend will be even more fun and hence will further improve the flow of positive energy.

You need to do it regularly otherwise, if you are like me, one day of full-time job with all the office gossips and intricacies will kill all the creativity you managed to bring up to the surface.

When you feel that you are in the flow, take a piece of paper and answer the questions below. They don’t need to be perfect, just write whatever comes to your mind. The more you practice the more your subconscious mind will be on the task meaning the real deepest desires will finally show up on the piece of paper.

Start with easier questions – never ask yourself a question like “what do I really want?” – this question is too general and will bring you frustration only since you will have a hard time to answer it.

Some questions to help you get started:

“What is my favorite color? What is my favorite clothes’ style? Which clothes will look best on me? Why I don’t wear them?”

“Where I want to live? What kind of climate I prefer? Am I willing to study a new language and adapt to new culture? Am I comfortable where I live now? Do I complain too often about different things in my living environment? If yes, why I don’t change it? What’s holding me back?”

Remember whatever is holding you back is just an excuse – it will not withstand a serious scrutiny. Try to question every single excuse that you have. Again doing this with someone will help tremendously since we all are masters at justifying things. This is because very few people are comfortable with getting out of the comfort zone into uncertainty.

Some other questions:

“Is there anything I always wanted to do, to learn? What are they and why I am not doing/learning them? Are there any places I always wanted to visit?” If you answer yes, list the places to visit in the order of priority and find out how much it would cost you to travel – make sure you check consolidators prices for air travel and cheapest alternatives to stay that doesn’t sacrifice your safety. Traveling to your favorite destination might be much cheaper than you imagine.

More questions:

“Do I enjoy my living conditions? What would I improve? What is the ideal house for me to live?”
Describe in as many details as possible and try to feel it with all your senses. You can also do the visualizations in deeply relaxed, self-hypnotic state (see the self-hypnosis course for details).

Another set of questions

What do you eat regularly? Does it contribute to your health and well-being? What is your general eating pattern? What health problems do you have? Do you think it is related to your lifestyle? What can you do today that will contribute to your health and well-being? What natural non-intrusive therapies would you try to feel better?

Do you have a partner? Are you happy with your partner? If not, what changes you need to make to improve the situation? If you think the situation is impossible to repair why you continue to live with him/her?

Sorry for bringing this last part up but your happiness and happiness of people around you should be your priority. If you are both extremely unhappy you need to do something ASAP to improve the situation. The best way is, of course, to try to improve the relationship, if possible.

Imagine your perfect life. What you would like to do day after day? Won’t you get bored if you do the same old things every day? What would make your days exciting? What you will look forward every morning when you get out of bed?

Again imagine this in complete details, include all the feelings you would have – employ all your senses. Then visualize it in complete details in hypnotic, deeply relaxed state.

Do you like your job? Do you really enjoy your profession? Would you do it if you don’t get paid for it? If not, what it is you would like to do instead?

Here the honesty is very important. Nobody is forcing you to quit your job or to go to University to study something new. Just be honest with yourself – this is all that’s required.

The key is just to keep writing. Do this exercise once a week, if you can, each time trying to find more details; give more in-depth answers to your questions.

When you are satisfied with your list, you thing it is complete and include all the details of what you want to do re-write everything as a story in as much details as possible in the present tense. You should include all emotions, feelings and all your senses – touch, smell, etc. At this point do not be concerned with the “HOW to achieve it” part.

Now you can record your story and play it back while in deeply relaxed, hypnotic state. If you think you need to make some changes, something isn’t right in the scenery you imagined – then make all the changes till it is perfect for you. At this stage your task is to create your perfect life in your mind in all details and reinforce it through daily exercises.

The more frequently you will do this exercise the more insights you will get on how to achieve it and the more opportunities will come your way that will take you directly where you want to be.

If your goal is too big it is not impossible to achieve it quickly BUT do not expect it. Putting a time limit on it will create frustration, disappointment and complete abandonment of your dream.

Now you are probably asking – that’s it? There is the “action” part?
And you are perfectly right. Without an action on your part you will never receive it what you want. This is just the part one that is the preparation part and believe me this is the most important part. If done right it can lead you to your dream life, to complete satisfaction with everything you do and have.
