Powerful Lessons from Susan Boyle
First of all who is Susan Boyle? In case you missed it – she wowed the judges on the “Britain’s got talent 2009” show with her extraordinary voice.
Susan Boyle, 47 years old ordinary woman, from a village in Scotland, participated in this show. She didn’t look gorgeous and didn’t wear a special make-up, didn’t have a special haircut or a stunning dress and everybody in the audience including judges were highly skeptical and negative towards this simple woman who had a courage go after her dream to become a professional singer.
But the moment she started to sing, everything changed – people’s faces, their reaction, the reaction of the judges – from completely negative to highly emotional and positive.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch this video, watch it now on YouTube here – hopefully its still there.
This video got over 14 million views and over 100,000 comments in 2-3 days! The comments were from all around the world –this is a small world indeed.
While watching her I became highly emotional. It was a privilege to listen to her. She’s got an extraordinary voice and every time I was watching that video – yes, I actually watched it many times – I was getting emotional again. I couldn’t understand why. Yes, her voice was making me emotional but it wasn’t the only reason.
And then I finally realized why. She is someone who didn’t abandon her dream, who didn’t keep repeating to herself “it’s hard”, “I am too old”; she is someone who had a courage to go out there and despite all the adversity (the negative attitude of the crowd and judges) do whatever she set out to do.
Another thing that made me emotional was how people judge others by appearances. In fact nobody knew who Susan Boyle was but everybody was judging her because of her age and how she looked. I hope it was a big wake up call for everybody who had a privilege to listen to the Susan’s live performance.
And these two are the powerful lessons that Susan taught everybody. With her actions she encouraged me to continue what I am doing to achieve my dreams and I am pretty sure she encouraged many people to do the same.
I wish her all the best in her new career!
