Motivation: How to Bring it Back

First, let’s define what the motivation is.

Motivation is your inner drive to go out and do whatever it takes to achieve what you want. This sounds like it always comes from the inside. While this is how it should be sometimes our desire to do a particular thing strongly diminishes especially if it wasn’t so easy to do as it seemed to be in the beginning. As a result our motivation goes down.

While we know deep inside we need to continue in order to achieve our dream, our motivation is simply not there anymore. In cases like this there are different ways to bring our motivation back including looking for something or somebody from outside to motivate us and bring us back on track.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of some things to do to help you become motivated again.

1. Try to relax completely, engage in completely different activities for a day or two and don’t think about the work you’ve been doing for a while at all. Use different relaxation techniques. Do breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation (click here to see the free self-hypnosis course for more details), guided imagery meditations; start doing meditation. Meditation will help you to stay in touch with your inner self so you will never feel depressed again. You can also get a massage or take a bath with relaxing essential oils.

2. You can also bring your motivation back by reading stories about people just like you who achieved incredible heights despite all the odds being stacked against them. Find stories about people who successfully implemented what you are trying to do now. This way you will know that you are not the only one on this road: people succeeded before you so you can succeed too.

Read biographies of famous people especially those who achieved everything through perseverance and never giving up. You can also listen to motivational speakers. Buy CDs, upload them into your mp3 player so you can listen to them anytime you want.

3. Find people who can support you in achieving your goals. This category might include your close ones, friends, a group you might join, Internet forum or a life-skills coach.

Whenever you find that you don’t have motivation to continue something that you know is important to continue, try to use one of the motivation tips above for success.
